The title of this post suggests that I have a cousin Sal in Brooklyn who loves the Mets/Jets/Nets and talks like Bugs Bunny. Actually, my extended family is from Michigan, Oregon, and California, but New York draws people from everywhere.
I was the family pioneer in NYC, living here from 1997 to 2002, and after I left two cousins moved in: Max from San Francisco working with Teach For America, and Becky from Detroit pursuing her opera career. They both live in brownstone Brooklyn so we met up in Fort Greene for a Sunday night family dinner.
Neither Max nor Becky is married (as far as I know) but they both brought along their respective people-of-interest, Shannon and Jack. Over beers, they explained how they had met up originally, with one story involving patience (an almost two month delay before a follow-up call) and the other a sordid tale of illicit passion. Well, that’s taking things too far, but they were both in other relationships, then met and fell for each other right away and after some twists and turns finally ended up together.
The moral of the story is…there are all kinds of ways to meet your partner, whether at a soccer league, through a friend, or in line for the bathroom. So be open to the people around you, because you never know the role they might play in your life.
Great photo! Glad you were all able to get together.
Ok, if you insist.
